Module 1: What Is Early Relational Health?
Nurturing caregiver-child interactions result in strong, positive and enduring relationships. With this in mind, caring professionals need to uplift the natural strengths they notice in families they work with. This is the key message of the first module of the animated video series on early relational health from our partners at Michigan’s Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation.
Parents and caregivers often bond with their children through simple interactions rooted in their heritage and culture, which increases a sense of belonging and connection. Simple ways for professionals to support them in this journey include making eye contact and smiling to let them know you believe in them as a parent, celebrating small moments of connection, and not being afraid to admit when you’ve made a mistake.
